My McDonald's Observation

The chapter Your Trusted Friends also discusses how McDonald’s portrays itself as a friend who is to be trusted. They suggest that they care for the well being of their costumers and present themselves in reliable and all natural manner. In my recent visit to a McDonald’s in my local neighborhood in Jamaica, I observed the process and environment while maintaining an ironic distance. Before I walked in, I noticed the big and powerful yellow M placed over the door. I then went in and sat in a far empty corner and paid close attention to the environment itself. After an hour I realized how big and crowded it actually was. Not only were all the tables occupied, but people were waiting for seats to eat their meals. Moment after moment the aroma of food changed from French fries to Cinnamon Melts and then to coffee. I saw an image of a pretty young woman with a iced McCafe latter in her hand with a big smile which was visually attractive.
The seating and tables were arranged in spacious manner and the path to the register was long and clear. The red walls and yellow items scattered around the area made it visually attractive. The beaming sun sparkled through the enormous glass windows, lighting the place up and giving it a vibrant and alert feeling. There were constant employees cleaning and mopping until the floors and tables were sparkling clean. The rows of registers on the counters were organized with young cashiers dressed in white shirts, black slacks, and colorful scarves and hats with M logos on them. They had warm friendly smiles and greeted each costumer and gave the fastest service possible
I was shocked as to how quickly people were leaving with large bags or meals. Not only was the food appealing to the consumers, but it was extremely convenient. People could save so much time by picking up a meal before work now wonder they came in. Not only was the food appealing to them but I walked up to the register and saw the prices of how cheap things actually were. The dollar menu offered a variety of items from whole meals to deserts such as ice cream, cookies, and apple pies. The recently new McCafe coffee items were listed on a large board for the customers to notice and many people bought them on the go. There was also a large display box against the wall with a clear window which displayed the current toys and watches which were included in happy meals. The children peered into the box with excitement and anticipation.
